Robert Frost's Connection To The IB Program
Robert Frost has many connections to the IB program (e.g. communicator, open-minded) , but his main connection to the IB program is the environment.
Many of Robert Frost's poems have a main idea that relates to nature/wildlife.The poems of his including nature use creative metaphors comparing everyday things (e.g. trees, grass, swamps) that are in nature to explain complex human arguments and problems. He does a fantastic job in doing so, with one of his greatest works being "Into My Own", where he compares a scene of dark trees in a wood to a mysterious and dark future. Many of his Frost's nature poems have men involved in them, and some of his poems show how men do not understand nature and their affiliation with it. Frost made the men seem like they were handicapped, just because they couldn't understand nature; this is how much he valued it. If Robert Frost was still alive, he would thrive to keep the environment clean and healthy because he found things in nature that could relate to the life of a human, that others could not.
Robert Frost's environmentalism in his poems is an excellent connection to the IB program because his poems that include nature can explain problems that IB students may have (e.g. Into My Own talked about a person accepting independence and confidently going forward into the dark trees, even though he didn't know what was in them. Many IB students go through this as well). He identifies items in nature to interpret life lessons and advice, which is why Robert Frost is a great communicator. He communicates his ideas through nature (which is almost like a different language) and still can get his point across clearly.
In conclusion, Robert Frost is a superb example of a link to the environment and the Communicator trait in the IB learner profile because he expresses ideas and problems through everyday things in nature, he values the environment and his work is can be related to by many IB students.
